Balagan is a year-round bi-monthly film series established by filmmakers Alla Kovgan and Jeff Silva in 2000. Recognized as Best Series of the Year in Boston multiple times, Balagan’s mission is to exhibit and promote truly independent art-house cinema. Between 2000-2010, Balagan’s home was the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, although it has also held screenings at the Museum of Fine Arts and at the Harvard Film Archive. Since 2011, Balagan screenings have taken place at the independently run Brattle Theatre, in the heart of Harvard Square in Cambridge. In 2011, Balagan’s team welcomed two new curators Mariya Nikiforova and Stefan Grabowski.
